The Bindery Folder, Documented
Baum folders have been a fixture of commercial print and bindery folding for decades. The 714 air-feed folder and the 2020 friction-feed folder are the models most working bindery operators picture when they hear the Baum name, and the Ultrafold and Quikfold rounded out the line for high-volume and compact folding work.
Baum documentation has the same problem as most long-lived bindery equipment: the operator manuals, parts diagrams, and service references are scattered across owner copies, distributor archives, and the files of retired operators. This page collects what we can host for the Baum folder line in one place, alongside a live look at which used Baum folders are listed today. Downloads are free, with no account and no email gate.

Baum Folder Model Lines
Baum 714 Series
The air-feed folder that put Baum on bindery floors across the country. The 714 uses a continuous air-feed system to move stock into the fold rollers and handles a wide range of stock weights, which is why it is the model most often found in commercial print shops running mixed folding work.
Baum 2020 Series
The friction-feed folder. The 2020 feeds stock by friction rather than air, a simpler feed path suited to standard-weight offset and uncoated stocks and to shops that do not need the stock-weight range of the 714.
Baum Ultrafold
The high-volume folder in the line, built for production folding where throughput is the priority. The Ultrafold is the model bindery managers step up to when daily fold volume outgrows a 714 or 2020.
Baum Quikfold
The compact folder, sized for smaller shops and in-plant print departments where floor space is limited and fold volumes are moderate.
Baum BPM-714
The combined folder and feeder configuration built around the 714 platform, packaging the air-feed folder with an integrated feeder for shops standardizing on a single folding station.
Operator, parts, service, and wiring manuals for these models are added to the library above as PDFs are sourced. If you own a Baum manual that should be hosted here, contact us at the support address.
Parts and Diagrams
The parts that wear out on a Baum folder, and the service points operators ask about most often:
- Feed wheels. The rubber feed wheels that move stock toward the fold rollers. Feed wheels glaze and wear with use; a glazed wheel slips and causes mis-feeds and double-sheets. Replacement is a routine wear-part swap.
- Fold rollers. The rollers that pull the sheet through the fold plates and set the fold. Roller wear and contamination show up as inconsistent fold position and roll marks on the stock.
- Perforator and score blades. The perforating and scoring wheels that ride the fold path for jobs that need a perf or a score. Blades dull and chip; a worn perf blade tears the sheet rather than perforating it cleanly.
- Micrometer adjusters. The fine adjusters that set fold-plate stop position and roller gap. Drift in the micrometer settings is the most common cause of a fold that has crept off position.
Parts diagrams for each section are added as PDF parts catalogs are sourced into the manual library above. Diagram thumbnails carry descriptive alt text in the pattern "Baum [model] [part] diagram" when they are published.
Service Tips and Known Issues
Operator-level service notes for the Baum folder line. Always reference the relevant model's service manual before pulling guards or working inside the cabinet. These notes are a starting point, not a substitute for the manual.
Pull-roller alignment on the 714
A common operator complaint on the 714 is a fold that wanders across the sheet width. The usual cause is pull-roller alignment: when the rollers are not parallel and evenly tensioned, the sheet skews as it is drawn through. Check roller parallelism and tension against the service-manual spec before chasing the fault elsewhere.
Air-feed and feed-path service on the 714 and 2020
Air-feed and friction-feed folders both depend on a clean, correctly tensioned feed path. On air-feed units, service the feed-air components on the manufacturer's interval; weak or dirty air feed is a frequent source of mis-feeds. Confirm the rebuild and service interval for your unit in its service manual.
Fold-plate calibration
Fold position is set at the fold-plate stop. When folds creep off position, recheck the fold-plate stop and the micrometer adjuster before adjusting roller gap. Small, single-variable adjustments are easier to back out than several changes made at once.
Perforator-blade replacement
A perf that tears instead of cleanly perforating points to a dull or chipped blade. Replace the perforator blade rather than running it past its life; a worn blade also drags on the stock and can pull the fold off position.
Score-blade depth on the Ultrafold
Score depth on the Ultrafold is set by blade height. Too shallow and the score does not hold the fold; too deep and the score cuts the sheet. Set score depth to the service-manual spec for the stock weight you are running, and confirm on a test sheet before the run.
About Baumfolder
Baumfolder built paper folders for the commercial print and bindery market for the better part of a century, and the Baum name became shorthand for bindery folding the way a handful of brand names do in long-lived equipment categories. The 714 air-feed folder and the 2020 friction-feed folder anchored the line, with the Ultrafold and Quikfold covering the high-volume and compact ends.
After the original Baumfolder Corporation wound down, the Baumfolder brand and folder line were carried forward by Crathern, which continues the line for the installed base of Baum folders still running on bindery floors. For an operator searching the single-word "baumfolder" brand, the short version is that the equipment is the same Baum folder line under continued ownership.

Where can I find a free Baum 714 folder manual?
Free Baum 714 operator, parts, and service manuals are posted in the manual library on this page as the PDFs are sourced. Click the manual title to download the PDF. No account required, no email gate. If the 714 manual you need is not listed yet, check back or contact us at the support address.
Are Baumfolder parts still available?
Yes. The Baum folder line has a deep installed base, and the common wear parts (feed wheels, fold rollers, and perforator and score blades) are obtainable through the brand's continued ownership and through bindery-equipment specialists who keep stock for the legacy line.
What is the difference between the Baum 714 and the 2020?
The 714 is an air-feed folder: it uses an air system to feed stock, which handles a wider range of stock weights. The 2020 is a friction-feed folder: it feeds by friction, a simpler path suited to standard-weight stocks. Operators choosing between them weigh stock range against feed-system simplicity.
How do I value a used Baum folder?
Used Baum folder value tracks model, fold-station count and configuration, feed type, hours and overall condition, and what tooling and accessories come with the machine. The current Baum listings on Requip Market are the most direct reference for what comparable folders are asking today.
Who repairs Baum folders today?
Baum folders are serviced through the brand's continued ownership and through independent bindery-equipment service specialists. For older 714 and 2020 units, the independent specialists often have the deepest parts inventory and the longest institutional memory of the line.
